LightShot is probably the best screenshot capturing tool for every blogger and even non bloggers as well. Whenever we have to take screen shots, it’s more likely of a portion of what we are seeing, but the default Windows’s ‘Prnt Scrn’ button captures the entire screen shown to you.
After that you have to manually crop what you want. Wouldn’t it be nice if you can just take click of the desired portion in one shot? In this way it won’t be needed to again go to an editor and then crop that picture and all that stuff.
What is LightShot?
LightShot is a simple tool which replaces your standard ‘Prnt Scrn’ functionality and instead of the whole screen lets you select the desired portion of screen you want to capture. You can also capture the whole screen if you want to. That’s also an option.
Once you select the desired screen area, LightShot will display a small menu one in horizontal and another one as vertical. Both menu covers some basic editing options and also displays an option to save the desired area.
- Save it to local drive
- Copy it to clipboard
- Share it via free online storage
You can further
- Crop your image
- Transform or add new layers
- Add several filters
- Add effects
When you are done, you can save the image in JPG, BMP or PNG file format.
LightShot is available as a standalone app and it also comes as an extension to the famous browsers (as an add-on).
Once you have this app installed, just press the ‘Prnt Scrn’ button and the background will dim with a mouse pointer attached with message (“ Select Area”)
Just drag through the portion you want to select. Adjust the individual side by moving your mouse pointer to the side and dragging to the desired portion.
Once you will release the mouse after selecting the area, menu will appear and now you can use one of the option or just save it to your hard drive.
Personally I love using this app as now I am free with the useless cropping stuff which was just a headache, each time I had to crop a portion of a screenshot.
Anytime if you want to stop the ‘Prnt Scrn’ function, just end the process from the notification area.
Just close the icon shown as red arrow and your default ‘Prnt Scrn’ functionality will return.
