Whatsapp is one of the most popular smartphone apps that we use to share photos, videos, audio files and text messages among our friends and relative that is also using Whatsapp. One of the main reason why it is so much popular because it provides all the functionality (i.e. sharing videos, voice chat, text messaging etc.) absolutely free; you just need a Data/Wi-fi connection to use this app.
But nothing can be perfect and have some downside; same applies to Whatsapp as well; its downside is that by default Whatsapp automatically saved all images, videos and audio files that are sent to your Android device. Data/Wi-Fi is chargeable so you have to pay for all downloads/uploads.
Apart from this your mobile device have limited internal storage and if app downloads all the media files to your device then at some point you start getting out of storage warning.
Whatsapp provides a quick and easy solution to above issue with the help of ‘Media Auto Download Configuration Option’
How to stop auto download images, videos and audio files in Whatsapp on your smartphone?
Follow below steps to configure your auto download option in Whatsapp
Step 1 – Go to [Menu Button] > Settings > Chat settings > Media auto-download.
Step 2 – You will get three options that decide when your phone should download media using Whatsapp.
- When using Mobile Data
- When connected on Wi-Fi
- When roaming
Step 3 – Now you open and deselect the Image, Audio and Video check boxes from each Mobile Data, Wi-Fi and Roaming options and click on ‘OK’ button/option.
Now Whatsapp will not save any media file (video, audio and images) sent to you automatically. Whatsapp will ask you whether you want to save a Whatsapp photo, audio or video file to your Android device or not.
