Facebook, the largest social media network! Of course people love to stay here and discuss may be in the form of status, photos, videos, questions, messages/chats or notes. These many features are making Facebook outstanding in the crowd. People love to talk about every interesting thing on Facebook. They share in groups, post on pages, discuss using comments either it is entertaining, religious, political, cruel or anything it is.
Over the past few months Facebook has rolled out many products in a series, aiming at surfacing the public conversations happening on Facebook. Few examples of it are Hashtags, Embed Posts, and Trending Topics. Now, from 9th Sep, 2013 onwards, selected news organizations can integrate the conversations happening on the Facebook into their coverage or broadcast by displaying the public posts of real-time activity about any topic mentioned.
Partners can use this tool to show the number of Facebook posts that mention a specific word over a certain period of time, including a demographic breakdown for the people talking about that topic. For example, ‘What’s the Trending’ segment of the Today Show, NBC can easily include how many people on Facebook talked about a popular subject, where it is getting most attention, where is it more popular either males or females, where it may be useful etc.
Availability of This New Tool
This roll out has started with a small group of media partners. Buzzfeed, CNN, NBC’s Today Show, BSkyB and Slate are included in it. This is expected that this will be made more useful and compelling exercise for the readers and viewers as more top media partners may be partnered in future.
Public Feed API
Public Feed API is meant to display a real-time feed of the public posts for a specific word. This is to note that only public posts from pages and profiles (with ‘Follow’ turned on) are available with Public Feed API.
Keyword Insight API
Keyword Insights API aggregates the total number of posts that mention any specific term in a given time frame. It can also display anonymous, aggregated results based on gender, age and location.
How to Get It?
At present, these tools are available only for a small group of trusted media partners. Facebook is beginning discussions with other media partners and preferred marketing developers (PMD’s) and will be made available to additional partners in the coming weeks.
So, again and again Facebook is bringing in new features and giving an outstanding performance in all the fields.
